NAEK "Energoatom" Has Confirmed Westron as Its Qualified Supplier

NAEK "Energoatom" has approved again Westron as its qualified supplier with the right to develop, manufacture, supply, and implement the following products for all Ukrainian NPPs (NAEK "Energoatom" Decision #ÐØ-Ï.0.08.073-06 dated of January 25, 2007):
  • Instrumentation and Control Systems (I&C)
  • Monitoring and Control Systems software
  • Electronic hardware and enclosures
The above decision of NAEK "Energoatom" made on the basis of the successful audit of Westron performed by the NAEK "Energoatom" commission from January 17 through 18 is valid until January 10, 2010. The Westron's audit was caused by expiration of the validity of the similar NAEK "Energoatom" decision # ÐØ-Ï.0.05.055-03 of January 13, 2004.

Rovno NPP Unit 3 Radiation Monitoring System SAT

Rovno NPP Unit 3 Radiation Monitoring System (RMS) SAT commission assigned by the order No.1683 of April 13, 2007 has performed the RMS SAT and has made the decision on the system readiness for its commisioning.
The RMS of the new generation has been designed and manufactured by Westron. The main Westron's subcontractor is Positron enterprise. "Vulcan-RM" RMS has been designed for the replacement of the obsolete NPP RMS systems (AKRB-03, AKRB–06 and AKRB-08), extension of the RMS scope, improvement of radiation monitoring automation, reliability and validity. "Vulcan-RM" RMS completely meets the requirements applicable for VVER and RBMK NPP RMS systems. There are capabilities for phase-by-phase replacement of the operational RMS by the "Vulcan-RM" RMS.
The RMS upgrade based on "Vulcan-RM" RMS is also performed on Zaporozye NPP, Rovno NPP and South-Ukraine NPP.


Rovno NPP Unit 1 Primary Coolant Leakage Monitoring System FAT Has Been Successfully Completed

Rovno NPP Unit 1 Primary Coolant Leakage Monitoring System (PCLMS) hardware FAT has been successfully completed on Westron's site. PCLMS provides the early acoustic detection of the leakages in the VVER-440 NPP primary coolant (B-213 project) while Rovno NPP Unit 1 operation on various power levels under normal operating conditions, breach of normal operating conditions and primary coolant small break conditions.
The PCLMS design, manufacture and supply are provided by the following Ukrainian and Russian companies: Tekhnostandart Research Institute closed company (Kharkov, Ukraine), Diaprom closed company (Moscow, Russia), Westron LLC (Kharkov, Ukraine).
PCLMS implementation on Rovno NPP Unit 1 is planning during Rovno NPP Unit 1 outage in 2007.
Rovno NPP Unit 1 PCLMS will be the first to be implemented on the Ukrainian NPPs.



SUNPP Unit 2 Safety System Emergency Governors Upgrade

The next phase of the South-Ukraine NPP Safety System emergency governors upgrade in compliance with the "SUNPP Units 1 & 2 Safety Control Systems Hardware Upgrade" Technical Decision has been completed at the
SUNPP.
The emergency governors for the 2nd Train of the SUNPP Unit 2 Safety System have been replaced by the "Vulcan-M-AP-2/2" Computer System based on the "Vulcan-M" hardware. The "Vulcan-M-AP-2/2" Computer System has been put into pilot operation.
The Safety System emergency governors based on the "Vulcan-M" hardware have been implementing at SUNPP from 2005. The upgrade of the emergency governors for the 3rd Train of the SUNPP Unit 1 Safety System in 2005, and the upgrade of the emergency governors for the 2nd Train of the SUNPP Unit 1 Safety System in 2006 were a success. The upgrade of the emergency governors for the 1st Train of the SUNPP Unit 1 Safety System is planning during the SUNPP Unit 1 outage in 2006.

SUNPP Unit 2 Automatised Chemistry Control and Diagnosis Expert System Commissioning

The successful pilot operation of the SUNPP Unit 2 Automatised Chemistry Control and Diagnosis Expert System is resulted in its commissioning on July 17, 2007.
Westron has designed and manufactured the Automatised Chemistry Control and Diagnosis Expert Systems for and implemented them on all SUNPP Units on the international TACIS Program.

SUNPP Unit 2 Clock Sync System Upgrade

Westron has provided the upgrade of the SUNPP Unit 2 Clock Sync System (CSS) during the SUNPP Unit 2 outage -2007.
The CSS takes the Greenwich time (reference) each second transmitted by the satellite Global Positioning System (GPS). The reference time is converted by the "Vulcan-CIS/SPDS-2" Distributed Computer System (DCS) into the local winter/summer time of Ukraine (second time zone). The BPKV-M device installed on the "Vulcan-CIS/SPDS-2" (DCS) workstation generates the encoded reference time signal for the NPP Unit I&C systems. The fiber-optic communication lines, using the passive twisted pair/FO converters, provides transmission of the reference time signals from the CIS room to the I&C rooms.

More Digital Data Links for South-Ukraine NPP Unit 2 CIS

The upgrades of the Safety Systems, AZ-PZ (Reactor Emergency Protection and Reactor Preventive Protection) and ARM-ROM (Automatic Reactor Power Controller and Reactor Power Reducing Device) have caused implementation of the SUNPP Unit 2 CIS digital data links with the following SUNPP Unit 2 I&C systems during the SUNPP Unit 2 outage-2007:
  • Safety System 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Trains
  • 1st and 2nd AZ-PZ kits
  • ARM-ROM
  • Primary automatic regulators
  • Secondary automatic regulators (Turbine Control System)
  • Feedwater Flow and Steam Generator Level Control System (FWCS)
For the implementation of the SUNPP Unit 2 CIS digital data links with the above SUNPP Unit 2 I&C systems, Westron has supplied the "Vulcan-CIS/SPDS-2" Distributed Computer System hardware, the network hardware, and the software. The implementation of the above SUNPP Unit 2 CIS digital data links has been provided using the documentation developed by Westron.


Armenia NPP Unit 2 Diesel Generator Load Sequencer "Vulcan-M-DGLS" DCS FAT

FAT of two "Vulcan-M-DGLS" Digital Control Systems (DCS) for Armenia NPP Unit 2 Diesel Generator Load Sequencer (DGLS) has been successfully completed at Westron.
Class 1 E "Vulcan-M-DGLS" DCS are designed for auto control of consumers connection to diesel generators for NPP Unit power supply in case of emergency Unit power supply loss.
"Vulcan-M-DGLS" DCS are based on the "Vulcan-M" hardware designed and manufactured by Westron. Each "Vulcan-M-DGLS" DCS is provided with three channels where two of three voting logic is used.
The "Vulcan-M-DGLS" DCS software developed by Westron is based on the initial data provided by NiAEP (Nizhni Novgorod, the Russian Federation) and Armenia NPP.
The "Vulcan-M-DGLS" DCS implementation is planning during Armenia NPP Unit 2 outage-2007.


Kharkov Mayor's Visit to Westron

On September 21, Kharkov mayor M.M.Dobkin visited Hartron and Westron to take part in the meeting of the Hartron and Westron's personnel on the occasion of Machine Builder Day. In Westron the Kharkov mayor became acquanted with the Westron's research-and-production base and the projects in progress.
The Kharkov mayor has highly appreciated the successful activities of Westron in the field of creation of the high-performance control systems for the national economy and has presented some Westron's persons with the awards of the Executive Committee of the Kharkov city council. In particular, Mr. M.A.Chernyshov, General Director of Westron, has been rewarded with the diploma and Mr. O.M.Belokhin, Projects & Marketing Directror, has been rewarded with the Gratitude.

International Meeting Held at South-Ukraine NPP

The representatives of Westron took part in the meeting "Experience in NPP Automatised Chemistry Control and Diagnosis Expert System Designed and Commissioned on TACIS Program" that was held at South-Ukraine NPP within NAEK Energoatom and Rosenergoatom concern (Russia) cooperation.
Westron, one of the main contractors involved into this international program, has provided design, supply and commissioning of the Automatised Chemistry Control and Diagnosis Expert Systems on all SUNPP Units.

SUNPP Unit 1 Emergency Governors Upgrade

One more phase of putting into the commercial operation of the Emergency Governors for the second Train of the SUNPP Unit 1 Safety System has been finished at SUNPP. The "Vulcan-M-EG-2/1" Computer System pilot operation has demonstrated its conformity with the "Vulcan-M-EG-2/1" Computer System Technical Requirements and the advanced operational features.

SUNPP Unit 3 Vulcan CIS-3 Based CIS Has Been Put Into Commercial Operation

The upgraded SUNPP Unit 3 Computer Information System (CIS) based on Vulcan CIS-3 has been put into commercial operation.
In the process of CIS upgrade, the Titan-2 (SM-2M) CIS Upper Level complete replacement and Low Level partial replacement, including A-701 Turbine Generator Monitoring System and part of the KSO-1 cabinets have been performed.
The upgraded CIS Low Level is based on the "Vulcan-M" hardware developed and manufactured by Westron. The upgraded CIS Upper Level is based on the Westinghouse "Ovation" platform.


Diesel Generator Load Sequencer for Armenian NPP Unit 2 Has Been Put Into Pilot Operation

The successful completion of the Armenian NPP Unit 2 Diesel Generator Load Sequencer (DGLS) SAT at Armenian NPP has been resulted in the DGLS putting into pilot operation.
The DGLS is based on "Vulcan-M" hardware that is designed and manufactured by Westron. The "Vulcan-M" DGLS is provided with three "two-out-of-three" voting logic channels.
The "Vulcan-M" DGLS software is developed by Westron on the initial data provided by NiAEP (Nizhni Novgorod, Russian Federation) and Armenian NPP.


Westron's Quality Management System Certification Audit
November 23, 2007

The routine Westron's Quality Management System (QMS) certification audit performed by "TUV Rainland Ukraine" certification body from November 22 through November 23 has confirmed the Westron's QMS conformity with the international ISO 9001:2000 requirements. No comments and deviations have been revealed.


Khmelnitsky NPP Unit 2 Hardware and Pipes Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics System FAT

The Factory Acceptance Test of the System for Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics (RFLDS) of the Khmelnitsky NPP Unit 2 hardware and pipes has been successfully completed at Westron. RFLDS has been designed for computerized monitoring of cumulative fatigue damages and assessment of residual fatigue lifetimes of VVER-1000 reactor vessel; pressurizer and its pipes; steam generators; main coolant pipes; and Emergency Core Cooling System pipes.
RFLDS design, manufacture and supply are provided by “Technostandart” Research Institute (Kharkov, Ukraine), “Gidropress” Design Bureau (Podolsk, Russia) and Westron LLC (Kharkov, Ukraine).
Khmelnitsky NPP Unit 2 RFLDS pilot operation is planning during the scheduled Khmelnitsky NPP Unit 2 outage.


Rovno NPP Unit 4 Radiation Monitoring System Upgrade

“Vulcan-RM4” Radiation Monitoring System (RMS) SAT has been successfully completed at Rovno NPP Unit 4.
The "Vulcan-RM4" RMS Upper Level and safety systems measuring channels were put into operation in 2004 prior the Rovno NPP Unit 4 startup. In 2007 the AKRB-03 complete replacement, integration of the auxiliary measuring facilities into the system and implementation of the system auxiliary functions have been provided. The similar "Vulcan-RM3" RMS for Rovno NPP Unit 3 has been put into operation in 2007.

Certification of Quality Management System of Westron

an October 10, the regular I&C meeting of NAEK Energoatom Coordinated Expert Council was held in Westron.

In this meeting took part the representatives of NAEK Energoatom; NPPs of Ukraine; scientific, industrial, design and checkout organizations involved in upgrade of the Ukrainian NPP I&C systems.
TUV Rainland Ukraine, the certification body that performed audit on certification of the Quality Management System of Westron, has issued the Certificate to certify that the Quality Management System of Westron is in conformance with the international ISO 9001:2000.

The Certificate is valid through December 18, 2010.
