Khmelnitsky NPP Unit 2 Hardware and Pipes Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics System Pilot Operation

The SAT of the System for Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics (RFLDS) of the Khmelnitsky NPP Unit 2 hardware and pipes has been successfully completed, and the RFLDS has been put into pilot operation.
RFLDS delivered by “Technostandart” Research Institute (Kharkov, Ukraine) is based on “Vulcan” hardware designed and manufactured by Westron.
RFLDS software has been designed by “Gidropress” Design Bureau (Podolsk, Russia) and Westron LLC (Kharkov, Ukraine).

"Vulcan-M" Shipment to USA

Westron has manufactured and shipped the "Vulcan-M-VMDS" Demo System (VMDS) to Westinghouse Electric Company (USA). The VMDS based on “Vulcan-M” platform is intended for application in Westinghouse Electric Company's Training System.
The VDMS comprises the redundant controller, typical input/output cards, high level workstation, network equipment, software, and manuals.

Zaporozye NPP Unit 4 Radiation Monitoring System Upgrade

From February 15 through 28, the Zaporozye NPP Unit 4 “Vulcan-RM4” Radiation Monitoring System (RMS) Safety Systems 1, 2 and 3 installation, start-up and SAT were performed. “Vulcan-RM4” RMS Safety Systems 1, 2 and 3 pilot operation were provided by the personnel of Zaporozye NPP, Westron and Pozitron in compliance with the Zaporozye NPP RMS upgrade schedules. The hardware supply was provided on the agreement between Westron LLC and Atomkomplekt of NAEK “ENERGOATOM”.

Rovno NPP Unit 4 Hardware and Pipes Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics System FAT

The Factory Acceptance Test of the System for Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics (RFLDS) of the Rovno NPP Unit 4 hardware and pipes has been successfully completed at Westron. RFLDS has been designed for computerized monitoring of cumulative fatigue damages and assessment of residual fatigue lifetimes of VVER-1000 reactor vessel; pressurizer and its pipes; steam generators; main coolant pipes; and Emergency Core Cooling System pipes.
RFLDS design, manufacture and supply are provided by “Technostandart” Research Institute (Kharkov, Ukraine), “Gidropress” Design Bureau (Podolsk, Russia) and Westron LLC (Kharkov, Ukraine).
Rovno NPP Unit 4 RFLDS pilot operation is planning during the scheduled Rovno NPP Unit 4 outage.

Westron Has Won Tender on Supply of Diesel Generator Automatic Control System and Diesel Generator Synchronization Systemfor the Armenia NPP

Westron has won tender of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL, USA) on supply and implementation of the Diesel Generator Automatic Control System and Diesel Generator Synchronization System (ACS) for the Armenia NPP Unit 2.
Armenia NPP Unit 2 ACS is intended for control of start, operation and synchronization of diesel generators that provide power supply for Armenia NPP Unit 2 in case of power supply failure in emergency events. ACS, the Safety Class 2 system, will be based on the “Vulcan-M” hardware developed and manufactured by Westron.


The Contract on Engineering Services for Upgrade of Computer Systems for Almaraz NPP (Spain) Has Been Signed

Westron has signed the contract with Westinghouse (USA) on engineering services for upgrade of the SAMO centralized computer systems (SAMO) at Units 1 and 2 of Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant (Spain).
Westron’s scope of supply comprises the following:
  • Functional Design (including Safety Parameter Display Systems)
  • Application S/W Coding and Testing
  • System S/W Administration
  • Reliability Analysis
  • System Integration and participation in SAT
The SAMO will be based on “Ovation” platform. The installation of the upgraded Almaraz NPP Units 1 and 2 SAMO is scheduled on the years 2010 and 2011.

“Vulcan-RM4” Radiation Monitoring System Has Been Put into Commercial Operation on Rovno NPP Unit 4

The State NPP Nuclear Safety Inspectorate has approved the Rovno NPP Unit 4 “Vulcan-RM4” RMS Putting into Commercial Operation Technical Decision #132-91-TR-CRB.
Rovno NPP Unit 4 “Vulcan-RM4” RMS in the scope of upper level and measuring channels for radiation parameters important for safety of safety systems was put into commercial operation in 2004. “Vulcan-RM4” RMS putting into pilot operation with the auxiliary integrated monitors and functions was provided in 2007.

The commercial operation of the similar Rovno NPP Unit 3 “Vulcan-RM3” RMS started from 2007.

Rovno NPP Unit 4 Equipment Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics System (ERFLDS) SAT has been successfully completed, and ERFLDS has been put into pilot operation.
ERFLDS supplied by “Tekhnostandart” research institute (Kharkov, Ukraine) is based on Westron’s design and commercial “Vulcan” hardware.
ERFLDS software has been designed by “Gidropress” design bureau (Podolsk, Russia) and Westron LLC (Kharkov, Ukraine).


South Baghdad Thermal Power Station Unit 4 Startup
December 17, 2008
On 13 December 13:54 of local time, the South Baghdad Thermal Power Station (TPS) Unit 4 equipped with the Digital Control System (DCS) based on the “Vulcan/Vulcan-M” platform was connected to the Iraq power grid and started energy generation.

The DCS based on Westron’s commercial “Vulcan/Vulcan-M” hardware provides all TPS Unit 4 DCS functions, including the protections and interlocks, the auto process control, Unit 4 Upper Level functions and Main Control Room (MCR). The process control is provided directly from MCR workstation displays.
The new generation of “Vulcan-RM” RMS has been developed and manufactured by Westron. Positron enterprise is the main Westron’s subcontractor. “Vulcan-RM” RMS has been designed for the replacement of the obsolete NPP AKRB-03, AKRB-06 and AKRB-08 based Radiation Monitoring Systems. “Vulcan-RM” RMS demonstrates the improved radiation monitoring scope, automation, reliability and validity. "Vulkan-RM" Radiation Monitoring System is in the full conformity with the contemporary requirements for NPP Radiation Monitoring Systems.
