Contract on Delivery of Radiation Monitoring Equipment for Dukovany NPP (Czech Republic) Has Been Signed

Contract between Westron and I&C Energo a.s. (Czech Republic) has been signed on delivery and implementation of Gateways and Display Units equipment for Radiation Monitoring Systems in Vent Stack of Power Units No.1 and No.2, and in Vent Stack of Power Units No.3 and No.4, of Nuclear Power Station (NPP) “Dukovany”.
The facilities are developed on the basis of “Vulkan-M” platform that is widely applied to build the software and hardware systems purposed for NPP safety class 2&3.
I&C Energo a.s. is the tender winner, - this company is the general contractor for the works to be accomplished to reconstruct the NPP Dukovany RMS (in the part of gas aerosol effluents). The scope of works to be accomplished within the frames of the contract was agreed upon between the companies in the phase of mutual development of the tender proposals.
Delivery of RMS facilities is planned to be done in the year of 2011.

The Contract on Engineering Services for Upgrade of Computer Systems for Asco NPP (Spain) Has Been Signed

Westron has signed the contract with Westinghouse (USA) on engineering services for upgrade of the SAMO centralized computer systems (SAMO) at Units 1 and 2 of Asco Nuclear Power Plant (Spain).
Westron’s scope of supply comprises the following:
Functional Design (including Safety Parameter Display Systems)
Application S/W Coding and Testing
System S/W Administration
Reliability Analysis
System Integration and participation in SAT
The SAMO will be based on “Ovation” platform. The installation of the upgraded Asco NPP Units 1 and 2 SAMO is scheduled on the years 2011 and 2012.

Successful "Vulcan-M" Hardware IEC Electromagnetic Compatibility Tests

The serial "Vulcan-M" hardware manufactured by Westron has passed through the series of the qualification tests that have proved its meeting the requirements of the applicable European electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards.
The "Vulcan-M" hardware tests have been performed by the experts of the "Molniya" Certification Test Center accredited in the UkrSEPRO certification system to demonstrate its resistance to the peak level impacts specified by the IEC-61000-4 standards.
The "Vulcan-M" hardware test results in the full scope have confirmed the "Vulcan-M" hardware compliance with the IEC-61000-4-2, IEC-61000-4-3, IEC-61000-4-4, IEC-61000-4-5, IEC-61000-4-6, IEC-61000-4-8, IEC-61000-4-9, IEC-61000-4-10, IEC-61000-4-11, IEC-61000-4-12, IEC-61000-4-14, IEC-61000-4-16, IEC-61000-4-28, IEC-61000-4-29, and EN50081-2 standards. The requirements of these applicable standards are considerably stricter than the EMC requirements specified by the regulatory documents of Ukraine and Russia for Safety Class 2 NPP I&C hardware.
Factory Acceptance Test of the Radiation Monitoring Systems Equipment for Dukovany NPP (Czech Republic)Has Been Successfully Completed at Westron

Factory Acceptance Test of Gateways and Display Units equipment for Radiation Monitoring Systems for Modular Control Panels (MCP) and the Central Radiation Control Panel for Dukovany NPP (Czech Republic) has been successfully completed at Westron site. The equipment been constructed on the “Vulcan-M” platform test results have confirmed its compliance with the Technical Requirements and requirements of the applicable European standards.
The delivery of the Radiation Monitoring Systems equipment for Dukovany NPP is scheduled on January 2011.

Rovno NPP Unit ¹1 Reserve Diesel-Electric Power Units Automatic Control Systems  Have Been Successfully Put into Operation

Rovno NPP upgrade and implementation of Reserve Diesel-Electric Power Units Automatic Control Systems (RDEPU ACS) for the Unit 1 first, second and third trains of Safety System have been successfully completed.
The upgrade process of each RDEPU has resulted in replacement of outdated and obsolete equipment with modern digital ACSs for Diesel-Generator Rotary Speed Control, Generator Excitation Control and Protection; as well as 6kV switchgears, low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies, gauge, instrumentation and cabling replacement.
Software and hardware complex (SHC) of RDEPU ACS “Vulcan-Ì-DG” is based on commercial “Vulcan-Ì” hardware manufactured by Westron and completely meets requirement specification approved by NAEK “Energoatom” and State Nuclear Regulation Committee of Ukraine. SHC “Vulcan-Ì-DG” is designed for updating of control systems for 15D100 and ASD-5600 diesel engines, Sulzer diesel engines and other diesel engines used at NPP.
Certification of Quality Management System on Its Meeting ISO 9001:2008 Requirements

Westron’s Quality Management System certification audit on its meeting ISO 9001:2008 requirements has been completed. The audit has been performed by TUV Reinland Ukraine, the certification body.


Rovno NPP Unit 1 Hardware and Pipes Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics System FAT

The Factory Acceptance Test of the System for Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics (RFLDS) of the Rovno NPP Unit 1 hardware and pipes has been successfully completed at Westron site.
The RFLDS has been designed for computerized monitoring of cumulative fatigue damages and assessment of residual fatigue lifetimes of the VVER-440/VVER-1000 reactor vessel; pressure compensator; steam generators; main coolant pipes; and other hardware of the power unit.
The RFLDS design, manufacture and supply to Ukrainian NPPs are provided by “Technostandart” Research Institute (Kharkov, Ukraine), “Gidropress” Design Bureau (Podolsk, Russia) and Westron LLC (Kharkov, Ukraine).
The similar systems for NPPs with power units VVER-1000 successfully operate at Khmelnitsky (Unit 2) and Rovno (Unit 4) NPPs since 2008.


Rovno NPP Unit 2 Hardware and Pipes Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics System FAT

The Factory Acceptance Test of the System for Residual Fatigue Lifetime Diagnostics (RFLDS) of the Rovno NPP Unit 2 hardware and pipes has been successfully completed at Westron site.
The system is analogous to the RFLDS of the Rovno NPP Unit 1 that was delivered to the Customer at the beginning of November 2010.

Armenia NPP Unit 2 Diesel Generator Automatic Control Systems Have Been Put Into Pilot Operation

The SAT of the Diesel Generator Automatic Control Systems (DG ACS) for the Unit 2 second Train of Safety System (SS) is a success and the DG ACS systems have been put into pilot operation. DG ACS for the 2 second Train of (SS) was put into pilot operation one year ago. Thus the ANPP DG ACS upgrading has been completed.
The upgrade process has resulted in implementation of the state-of-the-art digital DG control, synchronization and excitation systems and in the replacement of sensors, instrumentation equipment and cable network.
The DG ACS systems are based on the commercial Vulcan-M hardware manufactured by Westron. The Diesel Generator Excitation Control Systems (ECS) were manufactured by Research-and-Production Association “Saint-Petersburg Electrotechnical Company” (Russia).
All NPP Safety System requirements have been completely satisfied.





IV International Scientific and Technical Conference “NPP Information & Control Systems: Safety Aspects”

On June 1-2, 2010, the IV International Scientific and Technical Conference “NPP Information & Control Systems: Safety Aspects” was held in Kharkov.
This conference organized by the State Nuclear Regulatory Committee of Ukraine and State Scientific and Technical Center of Nuclear and Radiation Safety jointly with NAEK “Energoatom”, Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and Nuclear Society of Ukraine discussed the NPP Information & Control Systems design, manufacture, commissioning, and operation safety.
Experts of Westron made the following reports:
  • Automatic Control Systems for NPP Units Emergency DG Plants
  • I&C Systems for “South Baghdad” Thermal Power Station (TPS) Units
The reports covered the architectures, functions and technical data for the NPP Information & Control Systems and Westron’s experience gained in the design, tests and implementation of the systems at Armenia NPP and “South Baghdad” TPS.

Equipment Delivery for Dukovany NPP (Czech Republic)

Westron has made and delivered the first equipment batch under the contract of work on re-equipment of radiation control systems at the Dukovany NPP (Czech Republic). The delivered information display devices of radiation control for modular control panels (MCP) have been constructed on the "Vulkan-M" platform and will be mounted in the MPC’s in the course of scheduled preventive maintenance in 2010. The delivery and commissioning of the radiation control systems to the fullest extent are scheduled under the contract for 2011.

Supply of Equipment for Almaraz NPP (Spain)

Westinghouse Electric Company (USA) has awarded to Westron a contract on supply of Signal Conditioning Panels for Units 1 and 2 of Almaraz Nuclear Power Plant (Spain). The Panels are destined for decoupling of electrical signals acquired by the centralized computer system (SAMO) from safety system equipment.
Westron’s scope of supply comprises the following:
  • Design and Technical Documentation Development
  • Manufacturing and Qualification Tests
  • Delivery to Almaraz NPP site and Installation Supervision
The installation of the equipment at Almaraz NPP Units 1 and 2 is scheduled on the years 2011 and 2012.

Factory Acceptance Tests of DG ACS for Unit 1 at Rovno NPP Have Been Successfully Completed
September 29, 2010

Factory acceptance tests were conducted within the Westron site with the participation of representatives from the Rovno NPP and the State Committee for Nuclear Regulation of Ukraine. Subject to the tests were Diesel Generator Automatic Control Systems (DG ACS) for the Power Unit 1 at the Rovno NPP.
The software and hardware complex of the automatic control system is built on the “Vulkan-M” platform.
Work is under way now on the reconstruction of the DG ACS in the framework of a contract between Westron and National Nuclear Energy Generating Company ENERGOATOM.
